SABBATH DAY: SATURDAY OR SUNDAY?

the sabbath dayOut of all the ten commandments given in the book of Exodus, the most ignored is the fourth commandment which speaks about Sabbath. The book of Exodus 20:8-10 says “Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy. Six days you shall labour and do all your work but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. Many Christians tend to dismiss Sabbath has unimportant and mundane which is not what God intended us to do. Understanding Sabbath and observing it right is as important as any other commandment.

Sabbath is a day set aside for rest and worship, commended by God to be kept as holy. Genesis 2:2-3 says “And on the seventh day, God ended His work which He had done and He rested on the seventh day from all the work which he had done. Then God blesses the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work…”. What is the true day of Sabbath and what does the Bible say about it, in Exodus 20:10, the Lord said “but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God…”. In Luke 4:16, Jesus went into a synagogue in Nazareth to preach on Sabbath. The Bible goes on to explain to us in Act 17:1-3 that Paul also taught in the synagogue on Sabbath days, if Christ and Paul kept the seventh day Sabbath, why do we worship on Sundays. Have followers of Jesus always worshiped on Sunday? It has been ingrained in your mindset that we must go to church on Sunday, but is Sunday really Sabbath? I have always believed that Saturday is a day to work and Sundays to rest and worship God, but now a question comes to mind; was the day of rest and worship changed?
