Scripted or Unscripted Wedding Vows

The end of the year is close. Wedding parties are occurring almost every weekend. Different creative hash-tags and pre-wedding shoots are uploaded on social media per minute. Let the power of your imagination come alive now. Remember the bride walking down the aisle, all dressed in white? Remember how emotional the moment of handing over bride to groom was?

That silent moment when the words “Anyone against this Union, speak now or forever hold your peace” are uttered.

Now there’s this point where the couple exchange Vows.

Yes! That moment!! Your ears are on a stand to hear what the couple will say, only to be amazed that it is

the scripted, traditional (if you wish to call it so) I, ____, take you, ____, to be my lawfully wedded

(husband/wife), to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for

poorer, in sickness and in health, until death, do us part.

The amusing thing is when the Minister in charge of joining is saying the Vows and the couple have to repeat word for word, taking turns. This brings about the question; Should the Wedding vows not be self-composed, uttered by each individual with no assistance since it is a commitment to a lifetime together? Any other way other than “Repeat after me”

Well, what’s your Wedding Vow going to be like?
