Service to Humanity: Looking Out For Orphans

“Every day, thousands of children worldwide ranging from tots to teenagers are left without a parent”

Nearly 13 million orphans are living either on the streets or in orphanages. These children, lack the attention and care for healthy development which could result in malnutrition,  a higher risk of disease, and even death.

Many of the orphans die of preventable disease, some of starvation and matters related to malnutrition, and some, unfortunately, at the at the hands of other humans.

Beyond being susceptible to the ultimate misfortune of premature death, some of the children go through untold suffering. Some of them are demeaned, used, scorned and even avoided by society.

A Simple Reminder To Look Out For Orphans

It was never God’s plan for any child to be left without a family. Being without parents is one of the constant evidence that we live in a scarred world.

These children are not less of humans, they are just like any other young individual. They deserve to be cared for, they deserve more than just a pity look from the public, they deserve more than a selfish picture on social media, they need nothing but our attention and affection.

Every child deserves to be respected loved and cared for whether or not they have parents. It is that respect that The Gospel Arena (TGA) paid a visit to Hearts of Gold Children’s Hospice located at plot 75, Alhaji Masha Road, Onolegogoro, Surulere, Lagos.

What Does the Bible Say?

Deuteronomy 14:29 “And the Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance with you, and the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your towns, shall come and eat and be filled, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands that you do.

As Christians, the Bible mandates us to care for orphans. God is love and expects us to walk in the way of love. What better way to show love than to give to those in need?

According to Kay Warren, the answer to millions of orphans today can be summed up in two words: family and church. Family, they already do not have, but they are left with one thing – the Church. Orphanage outreach should be at the core of Christianity.

(James 1:27)”Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress.

We might not have so much, but we are willing to share our little with those in need. In this world full of greed, pain and nothingness, we are encouraging you to look beyond your problems, mistakes, inadequacies and do a kind deed for a child in need.
