Having an unplanned pregnancy can be life-altering and perhaps even shattering. In times like this, we hope that the following facts from scriptures will help you make the right decision. So, what are the abortion facts? What does the Bible say about abortion.
One interesting fact about abortion is that, the word ”abortion” is not mentioned in the bible. At a glance, it may appear that God is silent on the issue. But don’t be mistaken, appearances can be deceiving!
While we can not point to the phrase abortion in the scripture, we know the following things from scriptures:
- God is the creator of life
- The bible always describes a fetus as a human being, and the bible says murder is a sin.
Abortion Facts: God creates Life
God is the creator of life and that all life fundamentally originates from Him. And as such, we need to cherish and nourish these gifts.
The following scriptures serve as infallible proofs that God is the creator of life:
Gen.2: 7 – then the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.
Ps.100: 3 – Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Job.10: 12 – You have granted me life and favor, And Your care has preserved my spirit.
Abortion Facts: Every baby in the womb is Human
One of the arguments that are usually given by pro abortionist is that a fetus is not a human. However, the Bible expressly states that an embrayo is a human being formed by God:
Psalm 139: 13 -16: For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me When as yet there were none of them.
This clearly shows that God sees the baby not completely formed as life and he has plans for such a child.
Other scriptures that prove this quite extensively is found in Isaiah:
Isa.46.3 “Listen to Me, O house of Jacob, And all the remnant of the house of Israel, Who have been upheld by Me from birth, Who have been carried from the womb.
Isa.49.5 – “And now the LORD says, Who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant, To bring Jacob back to Him, So that Israel is gathered to Him (For I shall be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, And My God shall be My strength)
Jer.1.5 – “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”
Abortion Facts: Murder is a Sin
The scriptures point expressly in the book of Exodus that we ought not to kill. This theme is reiterated in the scripture. God created the life of the baby, and He has plans for every baby right from the womb.
Throughout the scripture God emphasizes the need to take care of others, especially those who cannot protect themselves. These include children.
James 1: 27 states that
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
We earnestly hope that all this helps you to make the right decision concerning an unexpected pregnancy. We recognize that it can be a gloomy situation but God can create beauty out of any situation. May we abound more and more in the love of God. There you have it, this is what the bible really says about abortion.
