Rev. Sr Henrietta Alokha, The Principal of Bethlehem High School, Abule Ado, died while rescuing students in a collapsed building. This incident was caused by the explosion at Abule Ado area.
Rev. Sr Henrietta Alokha who did all her possible best to rescue all the students under her care, could not make it out herself because the roof of the building fell on her.
A statement about Rev. Sr Henrietta Alokha signed by Bro Vincent Iwueze reads;
“We have just received the news of the demise of Rev. Sr Henrietta Alokha, Principal of Bethlehem High School Abule Ado involved in the petrol pipeline explosion that occurred earlier today. Late Rev. Sr Henrietta Alokha is the younger sister of our Worthy Advocate WB Anslem Alokha.
“Late Rev. Sr Henrietta Alokha rescue all the children under her care from the pipeline fire and could not make it herself.
“May her soul and the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in Peace, Amen.”
The explosion which happened around 8 am on Sunday, March 15, 2020 affected over 50 buildings in the area. Bethlehem High School was one of such.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Director-General Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), said 17 bodies have been recovered while 25 casualties are being treated.
According to sources, the explosion occurred after a truck rammed into a gas cylinder placed at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in the area.
