Popular Nigerian Gospel Singer, Tope Alabi, responds to criticism concerning her viral dance video, which was labelled as “worldly dance” by her fans.
Some social media users said she is deviating from who she was 10 years ago, after watching a video of Tope Alabi dancing at her fathers burial ceremony.
Facebook user, Adeniji Aderogba wrote:
“This is Evangelist Tope Alabi oo… What is this world turns to for God’s sake. The Tope Alabi I knew 10 years ago is totally different from this one. Hmmm, Ogun Esu be ‘bon o!”
Tope Alabi disclosed in an interview on TVC “Wakeup Nigeria” that the dance was needed at that time, and she was dancing at her father’s burial. She also explained that only people with “spiritual eyes” can understand her feeling at that moment.
“I needed that dance. It was at my father’s burial and the praise was organized by some gospel artists to just worship God. I needed to worship God, I just need to. It’s not easy to bury your father. Some people die before their parents. As a spiritual person, you know you need that dance,” she said.
